Laboratory medicine training should include method standardization

Christa Cobbaert from the Netherlands has written a powerful editorial for the journal Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine in which she presents a compelling case for global laboratory medicine method standardization as a way forward for improved patient care.  She concludes: “Global standardization efforts are key for future success and demand holistic and strongly coordinated approaches with matched legislation and regulation. Furthermore, standardization of tests should no longer be considered a pastime of those interested in metrology; instead, scientifically underpinned standardization education should become an integral part of curricula of future specialists in laboratory medicine”
